Brad Carney, LCSW, MSW
Therapist | Owner
I’m a licensed therapist offering thoughtful, high-quality care for adults navigating anxiety, ADHD, burnout, identity exploration, and emotional overwhelm. Clients often describe me as warm, grounded, and real. I bring authenticity and humor into the room while staying deeply attuned to your emotional world.
I specialize in working with gay men, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and others who’ve been told they’re “too much” or who feel disconnected from their sense of self. Whether you’re stuck in self-doubt, navigating a major life shift, or just don’t feel like you lately, therapy can help you reconnect, recalibrate, and heal.
My approach is trauma-informed, emotion-focused, and deeply personalized. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy. We’ll work at your pace, helping you build insight, deepen your self-understanding, and move toward the kind of life that feels more grounded, intentional, and alive.
I see adult clients in Colorado (in-person or virtually) and virtually in Virginia. If you’re ready for a version of therapy that prioritizes depth, nuance, and your unique identity, I’d love to connect.
Specializations:
Anxiety: Supporting clients in managing generalized anxiety, social anxiety, and panic disorders through evidence-based approaches like CBT, IFS, and mindfulness techniques.
Depression: Assisting those struggling with persistent sadness, low motivation, or a sense of hopelessness by developing coping strategies and fostering emotional resilience.
Trauma/PTSD: Helping individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences, using trauma-informed care to reduce symptoms such as flashbacks, hypervigilance, and emotional numbing.
Grief/Bereavement: Guiding individuals through the complexities of loss, whether it be the death of a loved one, divorce, or other significant life transitions, and helping them navigate the emotional and physical aspects of grief.
Relational Issues: Providing support for individuals facing communication problems, emotional disconnect, infidelity, trust issues, and other relational challenges.
Identity Crisis: Guiding clients through periods of personal uncertainty or transitions, helping them explore their values, goals, and sense of self to regain clarity and direction.
LGBTQIA+ Community: Offering a safe and affirming space for LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples to explore issues related to identity, coming out, relationships, and mental health challenges specific to the community.
I tailor my approach to each client's unique needs, combining compassion, authenticity, and evidence-based practices to support their journey toward healing and personal growth.
Who I am:
I believe that meaningful therapy starts with a real relationship. I want my clients to feel not just supported, but truly connected; and that begins with knowing the person you’re talking to. I’m originally from Colorado and have also lived in Utah, Virginia, and South America, experiences that have shaped how I view people, identity, and belonging.
Outside the therapy room, I’m a big fan of volleyball, exploring mountain trails, and spending time with my partner and our dog. I’m a proud Swiftie (yes, Taylor Swift lyrics will make an appearance now and then), and I have a soft spot for sushi and Sour Patch Kids. Therapy doesn’t have to be sterile, I bring humor, honesty, and a down-to-earth presence to our work together.
If you ever want to ask me something or share more of your own story, know that I welcome it. Building trust and comfort is part of the healing process and I’m here for all of it with you.
